This is the beginning of a story... the story of two people who were meant to be together. Why? Because unknown to them, they shared terrifying pasts and the cruel circumstances of their births doomed both of them to a life of hell.
Two strangers ... one night ... one accidental meeting that changed their lives forever.
Gabriella Martinelli, Manhattan psychiatrist had only one goal in life—to help abuse victims avoid the horrors she’d experienced herself. She worked late, volunteered, and donated her services to anyone who needed them. Life was good ... until her nightmare resurfaced. He found her, and began stalking her, and she knew he wouldn’t stop until he destroyed every ragged piece of her.
Kolson Hart, Manhattan’s most eligible bachelor, was ruled by his dark past. He liked control, from the boardroom to the bedroom and didn’t care to be involved with someone whose life was just as screwed up as his was. But one look at Gabriella short-circuited everything. Want ... desire ... need ... will sometimes drive a man to do things he swore he never would.
He freed her from a life of fear ... When he couldn’t even save himself.

Once again A.M. Hargrove has ramped up the tension, suspense and passion in her latest smash, Freeing Her. It's no secret Annie is one of my favourite authors. Having read, and loved, Dirty Nights I was excited to read this spin off because, if Dirty Nights was anything to go by, I was in for one hell of a HOT bumpy ride and Annie certainly didn't disappoint. I was hooked from beginning to end of this nail-biting story, reading it in one sitting.
We first met Gabby in Dirty Nights and it was great to see her get her own story. I loved the way Annie brought in characters from some of her previous novels, integrating them in a seamless and clever way.
Dr. Gabriella Martinelli is a psychiatrist who devotes all of her time working with abuse victims, trying to help them avoid, or get through, the horrors she went through. When she's not working she's volunteering at a NA support group or at her local hospital giving free advice and support to anyone who should need it.
Kolson Hart is Manhattan's most eligible bachelor with demons of his own. He likes control and is very much a dominant alpha male. He doesn't have time for relationships.
One fateful night Gabby and Kolson are thrown together when her demons, in the guise of her cousin Danny, come back in to her life threatening to destroy all she has struggled to build up. She goes out to a bar hell bent on drinking to forget. Forget what he did. Forget what he is threatening to do....destroy her. That's where she meets Kolson.
The attraction between the couple is there from the beginning, even though Gabby is too drunk to realise at the time. Kolson recognises a tortured soul when he sees one and feels compelled to look out for her, watch over her. The more he gets to know Gabby, the more he feels the need to free her from her past, to get her to reveal her deepest, darkest secrets that she's never told anyone.
Kolson Hart is one big contradiction, wrapped up in a huge hunk of sexy, blond, alpha maleness. Kolson recognised and understood the battles Gabby was going through in fighting her demons as he had just as many but bigger and badder. Although he adopted some rather harsh methods, I thought, at times to get her to open up to him he refused to allow Gabby the same privilege and kept his secrets hidden from her.
My heart went out to Gabby. Life had dealt her a pretty crappy hand and it wasn't done with her yet. (I wanted to punch her father between the eyes and don't get me started on her low life cousin!) She is quite a strong character in the face of what she went through and, although she did go to pieces, understandably, when on her own, she refused to let the very real, and scary, threats from her cousin get in the way of her work.
However, I did want to shake her at times. She was being stalked, terrorised by her sick & twisted cousin but she put herself, and others, into the face of danger a few times without thinking of the consequences, of what might happen. I wanted to shout at her, "you've got a deranged man after you! What the hell are you doing?"
The hot, steamy passion between Gabby and Kolson made me reach for the ice. Oh! The ice!!! *stops to compose oneself and cool down* I can guarantee you will need asbestos gloves to handle the steamy scenes, my kindle was smoking! While the tension and suspense kept my heart rate up, my palms sweating and my butt glued to my seat until the very last page where I was like, Aaargghhh!! Annie, what you doing to me? I need to know what happens next!
So, if you're looking for a book filled with enough nail-biting tension and suspense to keep you gripped, rooted to your seat and plenty of hot, passionate sex to ensure at least one panty change then look no further. About the Author
So began A. M. Hargrove's career as a YA/NA and Adult Romance writer. Her books include Kissing Fire, Edge of Disaster, Shattered Edge, the series the Guardians of Vesturon (Survival, Resurrection, Determinant, Beginnings and reEmergent), Dark Waltz, Tragically Flawed, Tragic Desires, and Exquisite Betrayal.
Other than being in love with being in love, she loves chocolate, ice cream and coffee and is positive they should be added as part of the USDA food groups.
(If you're wondering, it didn't happen EXACTLY that way, but….)
You can also find her on Goodreads as Emerson St. Clair. Her novella series, Dirty Nights, is available and those are a little dark, a little erotic and a lot sexy!
