WOW!!! That's all I can say.
The Tate Connors Effect strikes again!!
If you've read Just Breathe you REALLY need to read Breathless, Tate just gets better. If you haven't read Just Breathe, I suggest you do. You won't regret it.
***WARNING!!!! If you haven't read Just Breathe STOP reading NOW! Although this is a spoiler free review of Breathless there may contain a few from Just Breathe.
Breathless may be a novella but damn! it's packed to the gills with everything you could expect from a full length novel. I'm left reeling and feeling like I've been put through the wringer.
The story is told from Tate's POV and starts off right where Just Breathe left us. Tate standing on the sidewalk watching Sav leave for New York City. Now while I do love Tate there is one man who holds my heart more than anyone in this series. His name is Davenport...MISTER Davenport! I just LOVE that man and was sooo excited when Rachel Brookes told me he would feature a little bit in this novella. HOWEVER!! I was so caught up with Tate's need to show, and prove, how much he loves Sav and his continuing battle overcome his insecurities of never being good enough for her that I hardly missed Mr D. Shhh, don't tell him!Breathless is filled with so much emotion. I have laughed out loud at the banter between the characters, I loved it when a drunk Tanzi called Tate "Tatey Potaty"! I've been left hot and breathless (see what I did there?) from the STEAMY scenes between Tate and Sav...oh my Lord, the bath!!! And I have cried and sobbed too, Rachel really knows how to pull hard on your heart strings, you can feel all of Tate's love and fears pouring from each page.
Of course, the story wouldn't be complete without a glimpse of my favourite supporting characters - Tanzi & Jack. I absolutely adore those two, they make me laugh out loud with their hysterical banter with each other and I love Jack's outspoken nature and near the knuckle comments, the burrowing wombat comment comes to mind. I'm actually grinning as I write this!
The ending - I know a lot of you won't like it but I loved it and it paves the way wonderfully for the next installment, Breathe Again. Rachel, you are one evil genius but I love you for it.
There is so much more I want to say but I can't without revealing the plot. Just know that I freakin' loved it and you all should read it!!
I truly can't wait for my next fix of Tate, Sav, Tanzi & Jack...not forgetting, of course, my man Mr D!
Andrea gives this a rating of...
Rachel Brookes is from a coastal town on the east coast of Australia where beaches, kangaroos and surfers roam free. She writes angsty love stories with a pinch of craziness, a dash of drama, a cup of romance and a spoonful of sexiness… oh and the main ingredient hot guys.
Rachel sometimes forgets to eat, sometimes forgets to sleep and sometimes can’t remember the last time she cleaned her apartment but that’s because she is in a long term relationship with her laptop and is constantly writing.
When she does step away from her laptop she can be found taking too many photos, making scrumptious cocktails, laughing at Adam Sandler movies and spending her time with her amazing family and friends.
With her first novel, Just Breathe, was released in July 2013, her dream of releasing a book became reality. With another three books already taking up her mind, she cannot wait to start this crazy ride.
