The Review

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

"Fashion tip: Stilettos are great when paired with a great pair of jeans, a skirt, or a dress. Not only do they make your legs look longer and give your calves a great workout but they have the added bonus of  coming in handy should you need to give a cheating husband a kick in the crotch!"

As soon as I read that opening sentence I knew I was going to like Pretty Little Lies and I wasn't wrong! I loved the fashion tips that began every chapter. They were sometimes funny, usually gave a hint as to what was to come in that chapter and ALWAYS practical.
Just like Olivia, I could've kicked her cheating, slime-ball of an ex, Deacon, right in the crotch more than once!! Oh, I didn't like him and with good reason as you will find out (no spoilers).

Olivia decides enough is enough, she's taking her life back. She divorces her ex, heads home to her best friend and bumps, literally, into Luke, her first love and realises she still loves him.
Luke is now a successful businessman and all kinds of hot!! Can Olivia resist him? Does she even want to? Hell, I wouldn't!

I loved Olivia's fiery best friend Pyper, who only has Olivia's best interests at heart even if Olivia thinks otherwise! She made me laugh out loud so many times especially when trying to get Olivia back onto the dating scene..setting up an on-line dating profile scene was really funny, as was the various "dates" Olivia went on - too many to pick a favourite. I want a best friend like her.

"Fashion tip: Wearing clothes in several sizes too small DOES NOT make you look thinner. It makes you look like a big zit straining to pop. Also, pea-green is not a good color. On anyone. Ever."

Pretty Little Lies made me laugh out loud, shout, cry and gasp in shock - all things I like in a good read. There was enough hotness to set my kindle on fire and start my pulse throbbing (amongst other things!) but not too much that I thought "not ANOTHER sex scene!". I did think towards the end of the book that the story was going to be rushed as there seemed to be loose ends to tie up but just when I thought that, BAAM!!!.....NO SPOILERS!!!!!  (psst! I loved the ending)

A very worthy 4 stars for this well written debut novel, definitely 1-click buy this book.

I wait with baited breath for the next novel from the pen of this rising new author, Jennifer Miller.

Book Synopsis

After Kylie’s dad dies in a freak accident, he leaves her with nothing other than her crazy stepmother, Darla, and the ability to play guitar. When Darla kicks Kylie out and she loses her job all in the same day, she hops a bus to Nashville determined to make her late father’s dreams come true. Waitressing and saving her pennies to record a demo, her big break comes when she’s asked to join a tour going down the tubes with once platinum album-selling country music superstar Trace Corbin. But touring with Trace is hardly a dream come true since he’s pretty much drinking his career down the drain. If Kylie can’t pull Trace out of his rut, he’ll pull her and her dreams down with him.

Excerpt

There was only one way out of this. Okay, maybe two. Duck and hide and risk losing her job, or face the man whose song she’d just butchered in front of several hundred people. And risk losing her job.
Well, she’d never been one to back down, and she’d never ducked and hid from anyone in her life. Certainly not some cocky-ass country music singer who everyone knew was pretty much drinking his career down the drain.
“Can I get you a drink, Mr. Corbin?” Kylie asked in the sweetest tone she could muster, stepping towards the stage.
“No, ma’am. Got one,” he told her, winking at the audience and lifting a beer bottle in her direction. Thick dark hair peeked out from under a trucker’s hat, and muscular suntanned forearms flexed at the end of his rolled up shirtsleeves. His bright white smile was framed by boyish dimples, and damn those jeans were doing things to her.“Then what can I do for you?” she asked, rolling her eyes at the crowd as if she was annoyed with the megastar for interrupting her work. Good Lord. If they only knew that her heart was beating triple time against her ribs.
“Well, since you stole my song, the least you could do would be come up here and sing with me,” he slurred. For heaven’s sakes, the man was half drunk. And geez, could his jeans get any tighter? Focus, Kylie.“Excuse me, sir. You mean to tell me you sing a song about bein’ a single girl that can’t be tied down?” The audience cracked up all around her.
“She’s cute, Clive. Where’d you find this one?” Trace bellowed across the bar. Kylie didn’t look to see what Clive did, but she could see a few cell phone screens lighting up the room. This was definitely going to be on YouTube. Trace Corbin was going to make sure she never got recognized in the industry, unless it was by people laughing at her.
“Well, pick a song already. I got tables to wait on,” Kylie said, hopping back onto the stage.
He eyed her carefully as he lifted his guitar. “You gonna change the words all up? Make me look like a fool?”
“Oh no, darlin.’ Pretty sure you can handle that all on your own,” Kylie answered with a flirty grin.
She prayed she looked like she was keeping her cool, but the last time she’d seen this man he was on CMT and she was watching from her bedroom in Okla-fricking-homa. And holy hell if he wasn’t even hotter in person. He smelled like aftershave and bourbon. Kylie decided then and there that she’d never be able to get a whiff of either without recalling this moment.

Andrea's Review

5 measly stars is not enough for this book, I want to give it so much more!!

OMIGOD!!! Kitty French, you have surpassed yourself with Knight & Stay, it knocks spots off the first book and I loved that!! I have a headache with crying, what an emotional, pull-at-the-heartstrings read, I feel like I've been put through the wringer several times.
The story picks up right where Knight & Play left off, with the scene from the hallway, and boy, we were up and running! The pace of the story was fast but not too fast that vital parts were missed out. No, I mean fast as in pulse racing, heart beating fast. I literally couldn't put it down, I even managed to read a few lines on my way for my weekly food shop (if it wasn't for the fact I had no food in the house, I wouldn't have budged from my couch, believe me)!
Sophie, struggling to come to terms with her husband's affair and her own feelings of guilt goes back to her old job and finds things haven't changed...the job is still boring and her boss is still as lecherous, so she quits and goes back to work for Lucien, because she has bills that need paying, so she tells herself.
Lucien promptly whisks Sophie off to Paris, on a business meeting and it's here that we begin to see his more softer, vulnerable side. He fights his emotions for Sophie all the way as he feels he will only end up hurting her and he'd rather die than do that.
I fell in lust with Lucien in Knight & Play but here I fell in LOVE with him. He still set me on fire with all of his Viking hotness but he also melted my heart with his vulnerability and his romantic side he insists he doesn't have. The scene where he washes her hair...*sighs* (no spoilers).
I cried so much at the end of the book I couldn't see to read the epilogue and had a headache for hours after. A beautiful and fitting end to a beautiful and seriously HOT and fantastic series. I now know how Kitty felt when she finally closed the book on Lucien Knight, I don't want to either!!
Knight & Stay is now on my all-time favourites shelf.
Go 1-click buy and see for yourself what an awesome read it is, you won't regret it, trust me!

Hold on my beautiful man. I'm coming.

Simone's Review

Oh my! What can I say my Saturday just got better when I saw a tweet from the amazing Kitty French tweeting that Knight & Stay had been released early, I could not hit that download button fast enough, and could not think of anyway other than spending my day hiking with this Viking!!
This sequel did not disappoint Lucien was hotter than hell, but you also become to know the more softer, loveable Lucien. I also loved the way Sophie became more of a stronger assertive women who fought for her sexy Viking man!
I felt like I was on a emotional roller coaster! I laughed, cried screamed at my kindle!! With twitchy knickers in the process.
Can't wait to read more from the amazing author that is Kitty French!!

My Alien Self review

If I told you I'd been to twenty-four countries (twenty-one by the time I was twenty-two), that I'd worked in Japan for nine months, toured Australia for six months, enjoyed seven months in Thailand and met and campaigned for the Orangutan in Borneo, you might think that I was pretty lucky.
If I told you I worked in the hotel industry, for a sexual health department in a hospital and with prisoners, that I'd worked as a recruitment consultant, in so many office jobs I've lost count, as well as having my own company and multiple websites, at age thirty-six, then you might think I've had an interesting life.
But if I added to the mix child rape, mental health problems, promiscuity, drug taking, alcohol abuse, eating disorders, self harm, violence, mood swings, obsession, jealousy, loss of self worth, being raised by a mentally ill mother, bankruptcy, thyroid and gastro problems and public masturbation in school at the age of nine, then I am not sure what you'd think.
But this is me; Amanda Green. This is my life, my story; my journey back to me from depression, anxiety, panic attacks, OCD and Borderline Personality Disorder-mental illness which manifested during my life and came out 'to its peak' in my thirties.
I was able to use my collection of mementos, photos, diaries, journals, letters, emails and text messages of my past to finally see who I had become that alien self and how I found the real me.

Review

I downloaded this book to read, as I have family members who are suffering with Mental Illness and have also worked in the mental health sector and was intrigued to read about someone who not only for many years suffered with this illness, but actually wrote a book about her life and what she went through to overcome it.
This story is a must read for people who have suffered mental illness or have a friend or family member going through this, or even if its just to understand and help with the stigma attached to mental illness, or just want a really great read.
I could not put this book down, I admire Amanda for her honesty to her illness and am amazed by what she achieved in her life with her jobs and her traveling to numerous countries while suffering from BPD, anxiety and OCD.
What an amazing journey I was taken on through Amanda Green's life! It's moving, exciting, sad, funny, endearing and inspiring. Even if mental illness has not touched you or others in your life this is a brilliant read, and maybe it will just make you help or just understand someone who is going through this illness
.

Up and Coming Sequel '39'

                                             SYNOPSIS

After recovering from mental illness and many other adversities, Amanda Green published her true story('My Alien Self: My Journey Back to Me'). This is a journey of her life during the year following publication. Dysfunctional and ever more inspiring, this memoir will take you into a whirlwind of love, humour, emotion, depression, adventures, music, animals and relationships, as she strives to stay strong and achieve a life really worth living as a childless women before her fast approaching 40th birthday. Due to flashbacks of dark scenes and sexual abuse, this memoir is for Adults only and although it's a sequel, it can easily be read as a standalone.

Synopsis
Joey made her dad a deathbed promise that she would become a doctor, and dedicate herself to fighting the very cancer that took his life. There’s just one problem -three years into her pre-med classes, she's struggling to stay on top of the curve, let alone prove she's dazzling enough to earn a spot in an Ivy League medical school. In a Hail Mary move, she throws a basic Business 101 class into her semester schedule, banking on a perfect score to boost her GPA.
That is, until she’s paired for a final project with Hawk, the bartending, motorbike-riding, gorgeously bedheaded loser who falls asleep in class and communicates in one-word sentences.
Hawk does whatever he wants, whenever he wants, which sets Joey on edge – in every possible way. As they get to know each other, her urge to scream at him is curbed only by her fantasies of tearing his clothes off. Soon those fantasies become reality, and Joey realizes Hawk makes her feel more fully herself than any of the rich boys her mother and sorority sisters approve of.
But the promise to her father hangs over her head, and the harder Joey tries to succeed in her chosen career, the faster everything falls into a hopeless tailspin of bad grades, broken promises and guilt. It doesn't help to have Hawk sitting like a devil on her shoulder, insisting she should be free to live however she wants to live - like he does.
The only thing Joey knows is that her neatly organized life is crushing her - and Hawk's bad attitude might be the only thing that can save her.

Synopsis

Fashion design major Cat Mitchell has a closet full of gorgeous clothes - and not a single thing fits. After two years of runway modeling for easy cash, an accident shattered her lower leg bone and her self-esteem in just one swift fall. Ten months of no exercise, prescription steroids, comfort eating and yoga pants meant returning to campus as a size twelve instead of her former size two. When her gorgeous long-time friend with benefits sees her for the first time after her accident and snubs her in front of all her friends, Cat’s self-image hits rock bottom. Her sorority sisters all insist that she looks gorgeous, but all Cat sees is the roll of her stomach when she sits down, or the dimpling at the back of her thighs that wasn't there last year. Cat’s therapist prescribes something radical to stop the downward spiral - nude modeling for a nearby college's human form drawing classes. When Cat faces her fears and bares it all for the class, she realizes that she's posing naked in front the most gorgeous, buffest guy she's ever seen in her life. He asks her out after the class, and after one steamy night together, Cat's absolutely smitten.
Nate’s pretty close to perfect – he takes Cat rock climbing when he discovers that it makes her feel strong and becomes a great chef after he learns that the perfect pesto sauce makes her swoon. Cat starts to feel like her old self again - confident and beautiful - as long as Nate's around. Even when he discourages her from entering the Real Woman Project, a design competition for plus-sized apparel, she reasons that he's just trying to prevent old body image wounds from splitting wide open again. But when Cat goes home with Nate for Thanksgiving, she discovers something shocking from his recent past that proves that he hasn’t always been so encouraging of women of all shapes and sizes. Cat has no idea what to think, but she does know one thing - this might destroy their relationship before it's even had a chance to get off the ground.
Before Cat can figure out whether the real Nate is the sensitive, adoring guy she fell in love with, or an undercover asshole, she'll have to finally feel comfortable in her own skin - even if it means leaving him forever.
