Simone's Review

*ARC provided by the author in exchange for an honest review.

When I got the chance to read The Minaldi Legacy, I was just slightly over-excited. I thought, not only is it by Courtney Cole (fan girl screaming) but it is a dark romance (my favourite kinda story). I delved straight in to be consumed by the curse of the Minaldi family. It's been a long time since I have had a book hangover and boy, this story had me floored for a while after I had finished, it really was not what I expected, it gave you so much more. I started this book thinking it was about something supernatural, but by the end it turned out to be something totally different.

So we have Eva, a psychiatrist, who comes to Malta to study and ends up caring for Luca's mother. Eva first meets Luca when he comes to her rescue when an unexpected intruder causes her to scream out in the night. This leads to them both feeling a connection but Luca keeps Eva at arms length. Eva can't seem to shake the instant attraction to this very intriguing and stunning man but, as she starts to look after his sick mother she soon realizes that Luca has a darkness about him that she finds intriguing but also frightening.

I belong in shadows. I have known that since I was small and as long as I am awake, I feel comfortable.

I just adored Eva. I think it was the way she loved Luca inside and out, she never gave up on him and never once thought he was evil. She was strong and emotional and fought for her man like a woman possessed, even when he pushed her away time and time again.

“You’re not a monster,” I argue softly. “You’re a man, Luca. A man like any other, you’re made of blood and bone. You’re not a monster. You have a good heart. I can see it in your eyes…

Luca just broke my heart so many times throughout this story, such a broken dark mess. I just found myself wanting him to fight his demons and be happy ever after with Eva but this was not the case. He would go from being a very strong and sexy alpha male to, at times, just a vulnerable boy to then changing into a very dark and detached person, or thing, I'm still not sure which.

“I’m a monster, Eva. There’s no saving a monster. But I love that you want to try"

The Minaldi Legacy  is a very unique and original story that kept me transfixed right to the end. It's beautifully written with some disturbing parts that add to the suspense and mystery and, well developed characters that suck you into to this dark and tortured story.

If you're looking for a darker love story with twists and turns and a whole lot of thrill and chills then this is definitely waiting to be your next read!!
